Running a turkey trot on Thanksgiving morning is THE thing to do these days. According to Runner’s World Magazine, it’s become the most important race in America. They say in 2015, Thanksgiving passed the Fourth of July as the most popular day to run a race, drawing nearly a million participants to more than 1,000 different events across the country. So why haven’t I raced a turkey trot yet and more importantly, why is my first one a virtual?

Thanksgiving Day is an insanely busy day for me. I do have time to run in the early (5 a.m.) morning and that’s it. I best be getting back home from my run by 7 a.m. latest or my meal prep time gets messed up. Basically, I don’t have time to drive anywhere to go to a race. When I found out as a BibRave Pro that I could participate in a virtual turkey trot, I knew this was my chance to finally run in a real turkey trot.

A Special Place in My Heart

Did Y’all Know? I lived in the Bay Area for about 4 years. Originally, I was born in Chicago. In 1982, my parents took me to San Jose and lived there till 1986. The Bay Area holds a special place in my heart. That is an important reason why I’m supporting and promoting the Thanksgiving Day Virtual Oakland Turkey Trot

Giving Back

Location alone isn’t the only reason I’m passionate about this race. The Oakland Turkey Trot partnered with the Mayor’s Office, Alameda County Community Food Bank, Oakland Public Schools and local sponsors and charities. 100% of proceeds are going straight back to the Oakland community! This is huge.

I too enjoy giving back to my community. This is why I regularly pace local half marathons. Here I am at my latest pacing race at the November 4, 2018 3TV Phoenix 10k and Half Marathon.
